This Halloween - A Cow!

It took quite a bit of coaching to get Matthew to wear his Halloween costume this year. Who could blame him? He spent the night before throwing up. Once Daddy talked him into it, he started to get used to the idea though. By the end of the night he was counting his candy (not eating it because of the before mentioned tummy bug). But all in all a successful Halloween!

Choo Choo Matthew is Two!

The theme of this year's birthday: trains.

He was so excited to see Thomas waiting for him when he woke up.
 Plus, one super cool bike!
Just checking things out with Grampy.
 Back to playing with Thomas.
 Birthday breakfast.
A big Thomas from Aunt Debbie and Uncle Joe.
When his friends came over for his birthday party, Grampy was giving rides around the house.
Little man in the big chair opening his gifts.
 Whoops, what fell?
Who says you can't put the Mr. Potato head parts on yourself.
 Wow, a TRAIN puzzle!
Eating birthday lunch with his friends.
Time for cake. But first he had to take Thomas off the top.
 Dig in!
A doctor's kit from Grandma and Grandpa. He already knew how to use the stethoscope from Daddy.
Checking his own ears. Now that's skill folks!
Silly Grampy trying to get Matthew to wear his Thomas hat.
Jammin' the Elmo guitar from Aunt Carole and Uncle Robb.
Out to eat for birthday dinner.
The whole family on Matthew's birthday.
Daddy ended up wearing the birthday hat. That's just what dads have to do sometimes.
He didn't eat much dinner but he sure did have dessert!
 Sweet birthday boy with Daddy.
Trying to stay still long enough for a picture with Mama is hard for a two year old!

Matthew,

My how time flies! It seems like just yesterday you were born and I was beholding you for the very first time. Now you are two years old. When I look at you I see the same little person that has been emerging from the first day I met you but you also surprise me in the ways you are developing, the opinions you are expressing, and your general disposition.

You are a talker! You make sure that I notice everything you say and often wait for me to repeat it. I know that you want to be heard. You also express your opinions about things. You say "No like it!" a lot but sometimes you cast your approval as well. You make sure to tell me when "I happy!" and "I silly!"

You don't walk anywhere. You run. And you love being outside, especially with Ozzie. I am already racking my brain to think of things we can do outside next Spring before it gets to hot. You are also very brave and don't let on too much if you get hurt. I expect a big dramatic scene when you fall or knock your head (cause that's what your mom and dad tend toward). Not you. You just take it in stride. Either that or you have a super high pain tolerance.

You don't have much of an appetite. Everyone says that's common for toddlers but this is especially the case for you. I try to not take it personally that you don't like my cooking but honestly, unless it's something sweet and sugary and ice creamish, you really have better things to do than eat.

You love to read books with Mommy and Daddy. That's one way we are similar. Everyone in this family loves to read and you can often convince us to read lots at bedtime especially because we enjoy it so much.

I love you Matthew. I am so glad that God put you in my life. You have challenged me in whole new ways and you have brought me greater joy. I look forward to seeing you grow in this next year of your life.

Love,
Mama

Okay, okay these are WAY overdue!

I'm armed and ready with a bunch of excuses as to why I haven't blogged in FOR-EVER! It's not that nothing exciting is happening and I have nothing to blog about. Quite the opposite. My biggest excuse is that I am in school taking classes in web design. This takes up every last free minute I have. Free minutes only happen at nap time and bed time. Along those lines I have been working on another blog that gets more back to the heart of why I started this one: to capture all the beautiful and inspiring things I find in everyday life. I want it to be more of a professional blog for me where as this one has turned into my personal hum drum life. I'm trying to decide how to combine those two worlds because it my mind and heart they are in many ways inseparable. Stay tuned for more on that later. For now I am going to catch you up on everything that has happened on my iPhone since I last blogged. That's the easiest way to get over my blog guilt! Enjoy!

We visited lots of sprinkler parks this summer.
Little man loves the water and isn't afraid of it either.
Before it got too hot, we did some swinging on the back porch.
Played at the water fountain in the Domain and got very wet.
Another water park. He wants down.
 Annoyed with my kisses again.
We did a lot of bike rides.
Kid loves his helmet and mommy is glad for that...hope it continues.
Dancing in his diaper with mama's make-up bag (aka hat) on his head.
Greg and I at the Chicago U2 show this past summer.
We bought a new chair for the family room. Not this one but this shows Greg's enthusiam for shopping.
Visited Clifford at the library...a LOT!
Watched the Biscuit Brothers in concert.
Got distracted and played with the fan instead of watching the Biscuit Brothers.
Rode the "horsies" for the first time.
Helped mommy pick out a pair of running shoes.
 Rode the bike at REI.
 Ate some ice cream.
 Ate some more ice cream.
Went to San Antonio for our first ever family vacation (to someplace other than where our extended family live). Wish I had more phone pics from this trip.
Drinking shakes at Mighty Fine. Mama love loading the calories in him but I think it's creating a sweet tooth.
Birthday season starts and according to Matthew, "Jack. Party. Fun." I think it's safe to assume he also enjoyed the cupcake.
Continues to surprise me with interesting sleep positions. This can't be comfortable.
Another make-shift hat. The Halloween pumpkin.
 Eating a burger. Yes!
 Dig in kid!
Greg and I went to our first UT football game. They lost. :(
 Birthday boy with his daddy.
My kid's not a craft kind of guy. That's okay, I have little patience for it either.

Well, that pretty much brings us to the present. I hope to post birthday and Halloween pictures soon...I hope.

A special thanks to my phone for making this update way easier than if I had gone through all the pictures on our camera.
